A graduate of Trinity College, University of Toronto, John received his Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall in 1988. Before being called to the Bar in 1990, John received his legal training at the firm of Hamilton, Shilton and Shaw. John received the benefit of working closely with John F. Hamilton, who ended up being a Superior Court Judge, Bruce Shilton, who ended up as a judge at the Ontario Court of Justice and Ann Marie Shaw who also became appointed as a judge in Oshawa. Moving from student to practitioner, John immediately applied his training to various courts including the Ontario Provincial Division, General Division, Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal.

 

John brings a wealth of experience from 25 years in the Courts of Ontario. John’s focus in Civil Litigation includes, Breach of Contract, Insurance Law, Employment and Labour Law, including Wrongful Dismissal, to Construction Liens, Constructive Trusts, Estate Litigation, and Personal Injury. In the area of Family Law, he has comprehensive knowledge of separation agreements, pre-nuptial agreements, custody and access disputes, division of net family property and child and spousal support calculations. John honed his litigation skills while serving as the Federal Drug Prosecutor for the County of Perth (2004 – 2011). He remains involved in Criminal Law as defence counsel, handling violations of the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

 

John has resided in St. Marys, Ontario for the past 25 years with his wife, Barbara Tuer and four children John, Tommy, Marguerite and Sarah. He has been actively involved in the community by volunteering on the Committee of Adjustment L.A.C.A.C., Local Architectural Conservation and Advisory Committee as well as being significantly involved in the relief program, Children of Chernobyl. John and his entire family also volunteer their time and home to the Canada World Youth Program, hosting a child from Indonesia.

 

John is an avid skier and tennis player and has volunteered as a coach in St. Marys Minor Soccer Association and continues to follow the progress of the Spartans and Juggernauts.
